Goodwood Festival

Hello from Zak and Libby – the founders of Bound Tours.

This summer from the 10th to the 13th of July, we had the extraordinary opportunity to attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust. It was a weekend packed with roaring engines, incredible stories, and passionate people – but what truly made it special was being able to share the incredible legacy of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance expedition.

The summer weather was very hot, adding another layer of intensity to the event. Despite the heat, the energy and enthusiasm from the crowds were unwavering, and the experience remained unforgettable.

As proud residents of the Falkland Islands, we’ve always felt a deep connection to Shackleton’s story. His fateful expedition to Antarctica in 1914–1917 is one of the most remarkable tales of human endurance, leadership, and survival ever told. And remarkably, the Falklands played a pivotal role in that expedition. Shackleton stopped in Stanley before venturing south, and the islands remain steeped in polar history.

At Goodwood, we joined the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust (FMHT) to help tell this story to a wide audience. The Trust was instrumental in the 2022 discovery of Endurance, Shackleton’s long-lost ship, which had been trapped in the ice of the Weddell Sea and sank in 1915. It lay undisturbed for over a century until, in an awe-inspiring feat of modern exploration, the FMHT-led Endurance22 expedition found it upright and intact, 3,008 meters below the surface.

As part of the exhibition, FMHT showcased an identical model of the Endurance — a stunning, meticulously crafted replica that took 350 hours to complete. It was an incredible visual centerpiece and sparked conversations with countless visitors curious about the ship and its journey.

We spoke with hundreds of curious visitors who were fascinated by the story of how the ship was found, the technology involved, and Shackleton’s legacy. It was inspiring to see how his spirit still resonates today.

Back home in the Falkland Islands, we’ve built a tour company that offers immersive, guided journeys into both wildlife and history – and few stories bring those two worlds together like Shackleton’s. From the windswept coasts where elephant seals bask, to historic sites connected to polar exploration, our tours give visitors a front-row seat to both the natural wonder and rich heritage of the Falklands.

Whether you're a history buff, wildlife enthusiast, or adventurer at heart, there’s something here for everyone.

Our Shackleton-themed tours offer the chance to walk in the footsteps of legends – literally. And with the recent discovery of the Endurance, there’s never been a better time to explore the legacy of one of history’s greatest explorers.

We’re grateful to the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust for letting us be part of this storytelling mission at Goodwood, and to all those we met who reminded us just how powerful a story can be.

If you’re ready for an experience that combines history, wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes, come visit us in the Falkland Islands. The story of Shackleton is just the beginning.

See you soon,
Zak & Libby
